Dr. Daniel M. Smith, DVM: Dr. Smith is the owner and director of Alburtis Animal Hospital. He completed both undergraduate and veterinary training at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. His veterinary degree was earned from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 1999. He practiced veterinary medicine in Chesapeake, VA, upon graduation until moving to the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania in 2001. In June, 2001, he joined as an associate veterinarian at the Alburtis Animal Hospital where he has practiced through the current time. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Asssociation, and is the current Vice President of the Lehigh Valley Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Smith has an interest in canine hip dysplasia, and has received advanced training in performing the PennHIP radiographic technique for evaluating dogs for the presence of hip dysplasia as early as 16 weeks of age. He also has extensive experience with a range of canine and feline dental diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. He has training in ultrasound techniques and performs various ultrasonographic diagnostic techniques. Dr. Smith is also the current chair of the Academic Committee of the school board for Faith Christian Academy in Sellersville, PA. He is married to Michelle and has a son and two daughters.
Dr. Ashley D. Walker, DVM: Dr. Walker graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and returned to Alburtis Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian. Her face may be familiar to you from her previous work here as a veterinary assistant while she completed her undergraduate degree at Cedar Crest College. During veterinary school, Dr. Walker was a board member of her school's chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association and was an active member of her local community. She pursued additional training in her interests of ultrasound, internal medicine, and dentistry while in school. She was very excited to return to the Alburtis Animal Hospital team and continue to be a part of your pet's care.
Dr. David J. Henzler, DVM, PhD: Dr. Henzler earned his veterinary degree from North Carolina State University and his PhD in veterinary sciences from Yamaguchi University. He has worked in many different countries helping to control infectious poultry diseases as well as his work in Public Health with State Government and the Department of Agriculture. He has over fourteen years of experience as a clinical veterinarian including pet bird and pocket pet medicine.
Dr. Jeanette Maucher, DVM: Hailing from New York’s Hudson Valley, Dr. Jeanette Maucher received her Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Binghamton University in 2003 and worked several years as a veterinary assistant for both a feline-only hospital as well as a mixed pet hospital before attending Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated with her DVM. She practiced in upstate New York before coming to the Lehigh Valley with her two cats and two corn snakes. She finds the Lehigh Valley a beautiful place to call home, and has particular interest in dentistry and feline medicine.
Dr. William (Bill) Keer, DVM: Dr. Keer has been practicing veterinary medicine since graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. He has been a lecturer and instructor, the medical director of a large practice, and a relief veterinarian. He really enjoys small animal internal medicine, clinical pathology, and staff and client education. Dr. Keer is a lifelong resident of Pocono where he spends his time with his wife and daughter. He also enjoys all sports, fitness, travel, and wildlife.
MaryAnn: MaryAnn joined our staff in early 2013. She is a long-time Lehigh Valley resident who has spent some time on the West Coast and Upstate New York in recent years before returning to the area. She has many years of veterinary reception experience, and we know that you will find her calm and pleasant demeanor a help to you and your pets as she welcomes you to our office.
Aliya: Aliya joined our staff in 2015. She has is a native of the Lehigh Valley. She has a pleasant demeanor and a desire to help you and your pets in whatever ways she can.
Lynn: After being a client of our animal hospital for several years and working in local kennels, Lynn joined our staff in 2016. She is very kind and caring and you will surely come to appreciate how much she wants to help you and your pets.
Beth: Beth became a member of our staff in 2007. She is a Certified Veterinary Technician with over twenty years of experience with the management of medical and surgical care of animals. Her pet buddy was a black Labrador Retriever named Phoebe. Chances are good that you saw Phoebe hanging out behind our reception desk. It was her favorite playground until recently when a chronic disease took her from Beth and our Alburtis family. She has recently added a new black Lab, Helen, whom you may see frolicking behind the reception counter at Alburtis for days to come. Beth enjoys home remodeling, gardening, embroidery, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. We consider ourselves quite fortunate to have her working with us.
Jennifer: Jennifer joined our staff in the summer of 2002, having worked for several years as a veterinary assistant in an animal hospital here in the Lehigh Valley. She has a way with pets that we think you'll notice. Your pet's stay with us is made much more comfortable, thanks to Jennifer's caring touch. Her sense of humor helps all of the staff members keep smiling, which is good for us, for you, and for your pets.
Kathie: Kathie became a part of our team in 2006. She brought with her many years of experience in the field of small animal medicine. Her team-player spirit has proven to be one of her many useful attributes as she fills roles in many parts of our animal hospital ranging from reception to technical roles.
Kristin: Kristin became a member of our team in the Fall of 2009. She has lived in the Lehigh Valley area all her life, and enjoys hiking, photography, and movies. She has 10 years of experience working with small animals and has a gentle way of associating with pets, which we are sure your pets will appreciate. Kristin is the owner of two pit bulls, named Ruby and Luna, along with two snakes and a gecko.
Brittany: Brittany joined the team at Alburtis Animal Hospital in 2014. She has lived in the area for her whole life and has a great deal of experience working in all facets of the veterinary hospital. As you get to know her as we have, we know that you will appreciate her sincere heart for people and their pets.
Sierra: Sierra joined the team at Alburtis Animal Hospital after previously living and receiving training in Colorado. Her calmness and gentle approach with your pets will be appreciated by you and them!
Hilary: Hilary joined the team at Alburtis Animal Hospital after previously having many years experience at an animal hospital in southeastern PA. Her experience and attention to detail with compassion for your pets will be felt as you get to know Hilary.
Sawyer: Sawyer is a hard one to miss at Alburtis Animal Hospital as a 6'6" young man! He is new to the veterinary field, but has a heart for people and for animals that you will come to appreciate as you have a chance to interact with him.
Our Office Staff:
Mary Ellen - Office Manager: Mary Ellen joined our staff in November, 2001. She has a lifetime of experience with animals, both large and small, and even has a veterinarian in her family. Our hospital is fortunate in being able to tap into the organizational and "people skills" that she brings to us from her previous work experience here in the Lehigh Valley. Mary Ellen accepted the position of office manager after just a few months with us, and has performed in exemplary fashion the jobs of maintaining the hospital's inventory, assigning and adjusting staff schedules, and happily filling in wherever she is needed. "
Michelle - Bookkeeper: Michelle joined us in January, 2011, to fill the role of bookkeeper. She also stays busy at home and all around the Valley with 3 school age children who are highly involved in school activities along with community and school sports programs.

Mr. Pibb: Formerly known as Carmine, Mr. Pibb (short for Mr. Pain In the Butt Boy) was a stray kitten who was adopted by the animal hospital in the fall of 2013. He is a super sweet and fluffy cat who has been and will continue to grow to be a good friend to those who visit our hospital for years to come.
Cheeto: Cheeto was adopted by Alburtis Animal Hospital in the fall of 2013 to help keep Mr. Pibb company! He has a very sweet temperament and gets along with everybody!
Mai-Ling's Birthday Party - One of our beloved Pekingese patients, Mai-ling, celebrates her birthday every year with us. She brings lunch for the staff and doctors and we have a great time celebrating her life!
